Your Board of Directors has been listening to the feedback and requests of our fellow Pocono residents and has acted on behalf of the community. Some of the recent items include: 1) ZONING ENFORCEMENT -- We have been engaging in ongoing follow-up with the Chesterfield County Zoning Enforcement Office to assure compliance with zoning regulations -- most especially about boats and inoperable cars in view of the street. The major items are now solved, but there are still some more to go. Your Board will continue to work on this for our neighborhood. If there is a specific issue you would like us to address, please contact any member of the Board-- or, of course, just use the link on this site to reach the Chesterfield County zoning violation complaint form. 2) NO SOLICITING -- Many of our neighbors have complained about the number of door-to-door solicitors that have been disturbing our neighborhood recently. After checking with Chesterfield County, we found that the best option seemed to be to post a sign at the entrance to the neighborhood. If someone comes to your door, simply inform them that such activity is banned in Pocono and to please leave our subdivision immediately. If they question the policy, tell them about the sign or refer them to this web site. |

Fellow Pocono Residents, We need your help this year! Pocono has several major items that need to be accomplished, including restoring the entrance monuments (the brick walls at the neighborhood entrance) and correcting some landscaping problems on PCA property and right-of-ways. Please take a moment to renew your PCA membership--or join if you have not previously done so. Those of us who are paid members carry the weight of the entire neighborhood--while those who do not pay are basically freeloading on the rest of us. Doesn't seem fair, does it? We only assess $50 a year in dues, so why not take care of it now, instead of later? Unlike many associations, we grant full voting rights to renters, just like homeowners. But for anyone to vote, they must be a member in good standing (their dues must be paid). Please use the link on this page to pay now. --Eriks Goodwin, PCA President |

During its January meeting, the PCA Board of Directors voted to amend the PCA Bylaws to formally increase the number of Directors from five to seven. The President nominated David Friend to fill the vacancy made by the expansion and the Board approved the nomination by consensus. Considering David's many years of residency in Pocono, his experience perspective is a welcome addition to the Board. |

In a recent effort to get VDOT to install a traffic light at Pocono Drive and Midlothian Turnpike, VDOT did what they call an "evaluation" of our traffic and this is the result: "The Department completed the evaluation of signal warrants at this location. As was the case with previous studies, the intersection did not meet the established warrants for a traffic signal. The warrants are established in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) which is a national standard. I have attached a copy of the signal warrant analysis. It should also be noted that this location does not meet the current VDOT spacing requirements for signals as defined in the current access management standards." --Dale R. Totten, P.E., VDOT
The Board is disappointed by this finding and is looking into alternate ways to improve the safety and convenience of our neighborhood entrance. |

The entrance monuments to our neighborhood are showing their age and need some TLC. Several proposals have been put forth on what we should do. The simplest suggestion is to simply repaint the monuments, but more of our neighbors seems to be looking to either sandblasting the monuments back to natural brick or in applying a granite veneer to give them the appearance of solid granite. Fairly universal seems to be support for restoring the old gas lanterns that used to adorn the tops of our monuments (where the concrete flower urns are now), but to install something other than gas as the light source. This matter is currently before the Board, but the Board wants your input. What do you think? Please go to the Community Forums and discuss your thoughts. |

Chesterfield County is holding a series of public meetings to discuss the possibility of realigning ZIP Codes and/or mailing address "cities". One such meeting was held on January 21st and was co-sponsored by the Greater Southport Business Association and the Holiday Inn Select Koger Center. The following morning, PCA President, Eriks Goodwin, was interviewed live on WRVA morning news about the proposal. The issue has two objectives: 1) improved sales tax collection, and 2) improved community identity. On the sales tax side, the challenge relates to how the Commonwealth of Virigina has sales taxes reported by "city" as oppposed to by something more accurate like ZIP+4. As a result, approximately $2,000,000.00 in sales tax revenues that should rightly go to the County of Chesterfield is going to the Cities of Richmond, Colonial Heights and Petersburg instead. |
