Chesterfield County is holding a series of public meetings to discuss the possibility of realigning ZIP Codes and/or mailing address "cities".  One such meeting was held on January 21st and was co-sponsored by the Greater Southport Business Association and the Holiday Inn Select Koger Center.  The following morning, PCA President, Eriks Goodwin, was interviewed live on WRVA morning news about the proposal. 

The issue has two objectives: 1) improved sales tax collection, and 2) improved community identity.  On the sales tax side, the challenge relates to how the Commonwealth of Virigina has sales taxes reported by "city" as oppposed to by something more accurate like ZIP+4.  As a result, approximately $2,000,000.00 in sales tax revenues that should rightly go to the County of Chesterfield is going to the Cities of Richmond, Colonial Heights and Petersburg instead.
