Children who participate on a swim team learn appropriate swimming techniques, gain strength and stamina, and learn the value of being on a team!
The Gremlin’s are a combined community team. Members of the Pocono and Greenfield Recreational Associations practice and compete together as one team. Our team is small and a great way for new swimmers to test the waters. Youth need not be expert or even very fast swimmers; they only need to be able and willing to get into the water and try! Practicing regularly under the instruction of our able and experienced coach will improve the swimmers ability and speed. |

The First Annual Pocono Chili Cook-Off was won by Donald Penny! Don is a frequent visitor to Pocono due to his many friends in our neighborhood. His chili featured some of the spice he makes himself from pepper plants he grows, dries and grinds. Don won the Charmglow Ultimate Barbecue Tool Set as his prize-- to which his wife was heard to say, "Good, now you have good tools, can we throw away the old ones?!?!?" Everyone who attended went home with a full tummy after a great time was had by all. |

Pocono will be holding a chili cook-off on May 16th at the Pocono Recreation Center! Come one, come all to taste and judge chili entries! Here are the basics: If you have great chili, make a 5 quart crock pot full of it and bring it to the cook-off--you get in for free with a 5 quart crock pot of chili. Guests pay only $10 and all proceeds benefit the Pocono Civic Association. Everyone there--cooks and tasters--will get to vote for their favorite chili and the winner will take home a great prize! The rest of the "fixins" will be provided by donations of some of our neighbors-- soda, water, sour cream, and grated cheese. Come and see how your chili stacks up! And yes, we invite people from outside Pocono to participate, too! Bring your friends! Starts at 5pm. Voting goes through to 6:30 pm and the winner is announced about 7 pm! We'll continue and enjoy the rest of the chili along with the fun and relaxation of community until about 10 pm. Please Register online now! You do NOT need to pay now, but we would appreciate it if you register so we can have an idea as to how many will attend. Please check the "I will pay at the gate" box on the registration form if you want to pay at the gate. |

On or about May 6th, 2009, the new No Soliciting sign was stolen from the PCA notice board post on Pocono Drive at the entrance to our neighborhood. This crime has been reported to Chesterfield County Police (Report #200905062011). In addition, the Pocono pool has been vandalized a number of times in the past few months. I am sure that we and all our neighbors are incensed by criminal acts and want to see perpetrators brought to justice!
Citizens with information about the sign theft or pool vandalism should contact Chesterfield County Crimesolvers at (804) 748-0660. A cash reward will be given for information helpful to the police in the investigation of these crimes. These crimes cost the Pocono Civic Association money-- money that comes from the support of our fellow neighbors--money that will now have to be replaced by funds that had been budgeted for neighborthood improvements. Despite the heat, we had a good showing of our fellow Pocono residents to get things moving with cleaning up the pool for the Summer season! Through the kindness of neighbors, the plumbing was fixed, a tree was removed that had fallen onto the fence and into the pool, and extensive power-washing is going on as well. This is all in addition to the great help with washing own furniture, cleaning floors, and all the things it takes to make the Pocono pool a fantastic place to be for Summer fun! There's still more to do! We've decided to have another pool cleanup weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday. We need your help! The BIG pump folks will be here soon to pump out all the goo that accumulated over the Winter and soon the water will once again be clear! Everything is on schedule to open the pool on time! PLEASE REGISTER FOR YOUR POOL MEMBERSHIP AS SOON AS YOU CAN. |

NEW PERMANENT ADDRESS -- For many years, the address to which we mail our dues, pool fees, and at which we receive bills has changed with the changing of PCA officers. Well, no more! We have now installed a locking mailbox at the pool, 500 Pocono Drive, and invite you to update your address books for the PCA.
Not only can you mail things to the PCA at this address, but you may also deposit envelopes into the box as you drive by and save the postage. Since thePost Office does not have access to the mail inside the box, they will not complain and your envelope is perfectly safe. Please do NOT ever put cash in the box-- check only, please. (This is for the protection of both you and the Association.) DO YOU HAVE A SUGGESTION? -- Do you have a suggestion for a way we can improve Pocono? We're looking for all sorts of ideas and suggestions. Please submit your suggestion through our web site, by note in our mailbox, or by contacting any Board member. We, the Board of Directors, represent YOU, the residents of Pocono. We want to make this the best possible neighborhood for all of us. DONATIONS WELCOME -- Do you have deck furniture that is in GOOD shape that you no longer want? Would you like to donate some labor on a weekend to enhance our flower beds? Are you willing to make a financial donation to the Pocono Civic Association? We need your help! We will publicly recognize any donor (with their permission, of course!) here on our site. POOL SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES -- Would your company like to have a prominent sign at the Pocono pool-- advertising your firm for the entire season? Sponsorships start at only $400 for the season and we will have a metal sign made with your logo or message which will be attached to the fence at the pool for the whole season. Please contact Eriks Goodwin, President of the PCA for more information or to sign up. |
